Frank Ocean changed music.
In fact, if we’re completely honest, Frank Ocean changed music with Nostalgia Ultra, then again on Channel Orange, and then yet again with Endless and Blonde; the man is a genius. With that in mind, it’s not hard to hear why Jay Summer draws so much inspiration from the Odd Future member, on his debut track, Clutch Burning. Building across the course of five minutes, it’s languid, soulful pop at its most introspective and addictive. The first release of more expected throughout the course of the year, it’ll be fascinating to hear how Summer begins to separate himself not only from Ocean, but from a whole host of contemporaries that are following in Franks’ footsteps. A mightily promising debut. Check it out below.
